Use Chrome, Safari, or Opera for Netflix Streaming

Here’s a quick video I put together showing how to get Safari, Opera, and Chrome working with Netflix’s instant streaming.

NOTE: If you change Chrome’s useragent in the way described, all chrome windows will have that new useragnet. This can lead to problems with some sites. I’ve only noticed Gmail not working. To fix it, remove the custom useragent, or create two seperate shortcuts to Chrome, one for Netflix and one for all other browsing.

Update: Netflix now supports Chrome

Check your useragnet string here.

Thanks dude, my Opera now works … : )

  • Matt

Thanks! Now I don’t have to use Firefox anymore.

can you do this on opera mobile?

    • Ryan Kearney

No, as far as I am aware opera mobile doesn’t allow you to spoof the
user agent string. Even if you could, you would need silverlight to
      play the videos anyway.

I have opera and did what you said, does not work!

Thank you! I had reformatted and now cannot use Chrome. I hate IE too slow. I decided to try out Opera, imagine my surprise when I got to Netflix and find out I cannot watch anything, yet I have paid them for streaming. I used Google and searched and found you. Thank you , you answer was perfect. You Rock!

I have Opera on W7 64 bit and this worked great.

It would be interesting to know why netflix doesn’t allow opera when it works flawlessly.

  • Supernova_9090

I tried doing it for chrome, but when I copied the code into “target”, it didn’t fit.
